Project: Data Management System for North Sea Oil and Gas Well Data
Client: Roberstson Research International, Ltd., North Wales
Objectives:
First, design and build a data acquisition system to accommodate double data entry from two typists, verification tools to cross check the data and correct anomalous values and data management tools to write correct data to master file.
Second, a ‘user interface’ was developed and shipped with the product to give clients quick and easy access to the contained data.
Key Aspects:
database architecture for double data entry
Extensive data QA procedures
Intuitive data browsing and export tools for both tabular and image data
Project Description:
Robertson Research International Ltd. is an off shore reservoir geology consulting firm, working in oil and gas fields around the world, with a focus on the British and Norwegian North Sea.
When asked by a multi client consortium to prepare a definitive core analysis database from over 100 wells in the mid Norway Continental Shelf, Robertson retained EarthFx to design and prepare the underlying data management system, and the necessary data navigation and output functions to facilitate client use of the data.
As all data was to be typed twice and cross checked for QA, a six-database structure was designed to ensure data integrity from point of entry to final repository. Intuitive data entry screens were necessary for the typists, automated data migration tools to move records through the system based on their QA status, automated QA tools to flag and display mismatched results, and finally management functions to track the progression of data through the system.
Intuitive data selection and export functions were also provided with the final product to assist clients in querying and retrieving specific data.
