VIEWLOG Quick Tips
Sharing Data Parameters between VIEWLOG Projects
You can choose to export Data Sources, Data Parameters or Grid Definitions from the Project Manager. Once you've created an export file, you can import this file into a different VIEWLOG project. This makes sharing Project objects easy, as you can simply import these files into a new VIEWLOG project. This Tip describes the methodology for exporting Data Parameters.
-
Open the Project Manager by selecting Project Data > Project Manager, or by clicking on the icon
-
In the Project Manager, highlight the Data Parameters you wish to export (i.e., share).
-
In the Project Manager, click on the Tools icon,
, and select Export Project Data
-
You should see the Project Data Export window appear, with the number of object you selected. For the Export File Type, select PRM Data Parameter Export (.PRM).
-
Click the Export button, and select Yes to export the selected Data Parameter. You will be prompted to specify a filename and location. Click OK, and Close the Project Data Export window.
Once you have exported one or more Data Parameters, you can import them into another VIEWLOG project by following these steps.
-
In the new VIEWLOG project, open the Project Manager and highlight a Data Parameter. Click on the Tools icon, and select Import Project Data. Select the PRM file you created in the previous exercise.
-
You will be prompted with a window that asks you to specify the Destination Grid File Directory. It is useful to organize your gridded files (GRD extension) into a specific directory, and this option allows you to maintain that organization. In this exercise, leave this option blank, and the GRD file will be placed in the original directory. Click the Import button to import the PRM file.
Notes:
If you were going to import this PRM file into a new project, you would likely want to include the grid data in the PRM file. In this case, you would place a check beside Include gridded data in PRM file.
You can export multiple Data Parameters by highlighting more than one from your list. You can then export each Data Parameter as a separate PRM file by checking the checkbox called Create individual PRM files for each parameter exported.
By selecting a closed polygon, you can export only data that falls within the specified polygon. Place a check in the box next to Export only data within selected polygon.
The Project Data Export window also has options for resampling to new grids.
If you are exporting Data Sources and Data Parameters, be sure to export Sources separately from Parameters.
